Guangxi TV debuts Lawo mc²56 in China TV circles.
Powerful core and comprehensive functionality.
For the first time, a Lawo mc²56 digital audio console has been specified by a Chinese broadcaster for a TV application, a reflection of Lawo’s successful deployment by the international broadcast community at the Olympic Games in Beijing. Guangxi TV is installing a 48-fader mc²56 console in its all-new high-definition OB vehicle.
Built for the state TV station of Guangxi Province, the new HD OB van has a superior audio specification. Setting a precedent for TV broadcasters in China, Guangxi TV has chosen a mc²56 digital audio console, selected for its powerful DSP capability, high redundancy and control features that are unique to Lawo designs.
The 48-fader console is configured with 128 DSP channels and two DALLIS frames. One of these can be positioned as a stagebox, the other is installed within the van. Single-Mode connection is used for the stagebox, capable of covering distances up to 15 km via optical fibre.
The high redundancy factor of the mc²56 was important to the engineers of Guangxi TV, covering the PSUs, DSP boards and router card and offering a fully redundant signal path. As well as system reliability and safety which exceed the standards necessary for live broadcasting, the mc²56 delivers an advanced level of operational control, including Audio-follow-Video, hyper-panning and control of camera mic pre-amps. According to Lawo’s new Chinese partner New Digital Technology Holdings Ltd, which has overseen the delivery and integration of the mc²56, it all adds up to a remarkable price/performance ratio.
The new HD vehicle is due out on the road in July, and is the first of several projects which Lawo will undertake with Guangxi TV. Francis He, Lawo’s principal representative in China, is in no doubt that the award of these prestigious contracts has been heavily influenced by Lawo’s extensive involvement in the Beijing Games, and by the increasing use of Lawo consoles by Chinese broadcasters over the past 4 years; CCTV, Hunan TV, Henan TV, Guizhou TV, Tianjin TV, China Radio International, Shaanxi Radio and Dalian Radio.
“With more than 50 mc² series consoles deployed during the Games, this product range enjoyed a very high profile in China,” says Francis He. “Seeing the mc² consoles used not only by the prominent international broadcasters from Europe and Australasia, but also in the new high-spec vehicles from China Central Television, Hainan TV and Fujian TV, this has created great confidence in the Lawo brand and technology.”
