Going for Gold.
HD OB unit for Fujian TV with Lawo mc²66.
At the most important sporting event of the year, the greatest performances will be expected from the athletes taking part, as well indeed from the very necessary broadcasting technology. Fujian TV, the largest TV station in the Chinese province of the same name, has decided to commission a new outside broadcasting unit to cover events at Beijing. Fujian made the decision to install a Lawo mc²66 in this unit because, in their own words, it represents “a world standard in the field of digital mixing consoles”.
Construction of the OB unit was completed on January 25th 2008, and the vehicle was commissioned shortly afterwards. The new mc²66 passed its ‘baptism by fire’ just a few days later, when it was used to broadcast the traditional Chinese New Year festivities.
The mc²66 has 32 faders fitted in a 40-fader frame. With its HD core, the console provides 144 DSP channels, as well as a routing matrix with a capacity of 3,000 physical inputs and outputs. In addition, there are three DALLIS-I/O stage box systems (one local, two remote), and connections between the OB unit and both stage boxes are made via redundant optical fibre links. Fujian TV’s truck is one of a new generation of Chinese OB units that are specifically designed to broadcast in Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound.
The Fujian Broadcast Group is extremely satisfied with the result of the project and, in particular, with the new mc²66; further installations are planned. Because of its short learning curve and superb reliability, Lawo’s mixing console guarantees the high standard required by today’s broadcasting methods. With this collaboration, both Lawo and Fujian TV have already gained their position on the winners' rostrum!
