TV Productions at RTL’s new Broadcast Centre use Lawo Technology.

CBC choose mc²90 and Nova73 HD.

Following a move of the German RTL Group to a new facility under one roof at the historic Cologne Exhibition Centre close to the Rhine, CBC will be installing two mc²90 mixing consoles and two Nova73 HD routing systems.

CBC, who cover the fields of TV broadcast, TV production and IT, has purchased Lawo consoles and Nova routers for use in two surround TV control rooms and the master control room. One control room will be used mainly for RTL News, whereas the other room’s main purpose will be the production of sports programmes; this latter room will also be available to other CBC customers.

Both control rooms are linked to a Nova73 HD router that will handle all signals fed from the studios via Lawo DALLIS I/O systems. Through this intelligent networking system, both mixing consoles are able to share sources from either studio, allowing flexible and efficient use of the control rooms. An access rights facility is used to control local access to all sources.

The mc²90 consoles are fitted with 24-8-24 faders and offer console surface redundancy by means of a redundant control PC. The HD core boasts 512 DSP channels and 144 summing buses, as well as a powerful routing capability of 8192 crosspoints; this also includes redundancy options. As with the HD cores, the Nova73 HD router features 8192 inputs and outputs. It provides access to all DALLIS I/O systems in the control rooms, studios and central equipment rooms.

“The two mc²90 consoles, with the shared use of studio signals, are very well suited to our requirements and workflows. We were convinced by the Lawo systems’ tremendous flexibility, reliability and redundancy”, explains Andreas Fleuter, CBC’s Head of Studio Engineering for the Deutz Broadcast Centre.

Lawo CEO Philipp Lawo comments: “Our mixing consoles excel not only with their DSP performance and routing capacity, they also guarantee the efficient use of studio time. The consoles offer superior quality and functionality, a user-friendly, aesthetic design, as well as full redundancy at all levels. We are very pleased that CBC have chosen Lawo“.
