mc²66 case-hardened in operation for Global Television.
The variable audio solution.
Global Television, Australia’s leading service provider to the Australian television and broadcast industry, has commissioned a configurable OB system to be furbished with an mc²66 broadcast audio console in fall 2006.
Flexibility is crucial
This new flexible OB platform consists of a total of 60 military-specification road cases, and is scalable from four to 18 cameras. Depending on the number of cameras required for any particular OB assignment, all or part of the complete system can be shipped to the location, and setup on-site using any available space. As a result of this flexibility, Global wanted the ability to change the size of the audio system to follow suit.
The Lawo solution
The system comprises a 56-fader mc²66 surface with integrated audio-follow-video functionality, and a mc²66 HD core with redundant fabric cards. Because this console has been configured to be expandable it allows Global to send the 32-fader section out for smaller events, or send both the 32-fader and the 24-fader extension section to make up a 56-faders surface for larger events. In addition, as the two console sections have their own independent power supplies and are connected together via Multimode fibre, it is possible to separate them by up to 2km for split operations.
The HD core offers redundantly designed MADI, AES as well as DSP boards giving a total of 192 full DSP channels. Changing the configuration of the DSP is also possible at any time while the system is in operation without losing production data. The system has the ability to simultaneously create multichannel and stereo mixes for different feeds.
In addition, each of the six DALLIS stage boxes has a variety of different I/O cards, which can be moved around according to the requirements of an event. Any DALLIS frame is also equipped with two router controller slave cards, providing redundancy at both a controller and MADI level.
